Birthday Boys

Last week was very big!  It began with a Chiefs watch party for 16 people, then the start of our fall activities like mom's group at church and music class, not to mention the first day of school, and most importantly, our two 9/11 birthdays.  We ended the festivities with a weekend at the lake, Brayden's 2nd birthday party, and the K-State football game in Manhattan.  Whew, that was a lot for our little two-year-old and especially his 30-something parents but it was a fun week!

The "little" birthday boy woke to the K-State balloon he eyes every trip to the new grocery store we go to since the move.  Brayden has been telling everyone "twoooo" all summer when asked how old he is going to be, though this week he keeps telling us that he is six.  Not sure what is going on there.  He can almost hold up two fingers.  Brayden had his first day of Kindermusik at a new location with a new teacher who greeted him with a birthday sticker.  The class is for 2 and 3 year olds so Brayden is the youngest by several months but he danced and listened just like the bigger kids and was very excited to play with the shakers.  After nap time, the "big" birthday boy was home from work for the opening of presents.  There were cards, ribbons, wrapping paper and Brayden taking time to play with each present after opening it and stopping to read and re-read each book.  It took a long time and Brayden kept a running commentary the entire time!  "Potty" for his big boy underwear, "monkey book" for Curious George from Great Aunt Mindy, a blocks table from Great Aunt Carol with a school bus and bus driver that he named "Thomas", "Bert and Ernie" for the very popular $.99 Sesame Street stickers and "biiiiike" for his present from mom and dad.  Lots of rules were broken as Brayden and Tim tested the new bike 1) in the house, 2) without the helmet and 3) barefoot but Tim is excited to teach Brayden how to ride it this fall.  The helmet is far from popular at this point!

Brayden was having so much fun opening presents and playing with them that we postponed a couple birthday activities to another year, went to happy hour at a nearby Mexican restaurant and came home for yummy red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting that quickly become Tim's favorite dessert after I made it for the birthday boys last year.  Brayden had been saying "cake" for weeks when he would talk about his birthday and was slightly disgruntled that the cake was not served for breakfast.

Happy Birthday Boys!  I love you more each year!
