Way to Go Daddy!

This weekend daddy completed the Pike's Peak Ascent, a half-marathon running from the base to the summit of Pike's Peak.  That's a 7,815 feet vertical gain over 13.32 miles!

This was dad's third time to do the ascent.  It takes lots of stair master sessions and long runs to prepare for the unique challenges of this race.  I knew he could do it!  I stayed home with mom this trip while dad traveled to Colorado.  Someone had to keep mom in order and watch the fort!  To celebrate dad's successful race, we took him to Sonic for happy hour today and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon swinging and walking around Antioch Park.

You might ask what it's like to run up Pike's Peak.  Here is a video (8 minutes) a runner created from last year's ascent that gives people a good glimpse into the race.  Be sure to watch after the 5 minute mark to see the course conditions above the tree line!
